Mark Beaumont Inspirational talk

Very impressive talk from Mark Beaumont last night at Dundee University about his achievements so far. Currently he holds the world record for cycling around the world in the fastest time of 194 days 17 hours. His next challenge was to cycle the Americas from Anchorage, Alaska to Ushuaia in Southern Argentina and also climb the 2 highest peaks between – which he completed! So you can imagine he has some stories and experiences to share. Great talk!

Etape caledonia 2010 pitlochry

Completed the etape caledonia this year however had some bike trouble so did not improve on my time from last year which is a pitty. My wheel kept falling off everytime I got out of the saddle to climb hills – not good! So I will definately be buying a new bike for next! Aready registered for etape 2011 – cant wait.

Etape caledonia pitlochry scotland

Its that time of year again and I will be jumping on my bike to take part in the fantastic but tough event. I cant wait again it seems I have done very little training lets hope my time doesn’t reflect this and I improve my time – anything under 4 hours will be nice. See photos soon from etape 2010 caledonia.

Dundee Cyclathon 2009

Cycling Dundee cyclathon with my 1 and 1/2 year old son. Will be very exciting for him and hopefully not to hard work for me ha ha. Looks like we will have great weather for it too. I will post the pictures tomorrow when we have finished.

Etape Caledonia 2009

Finish line etape caledonia 2009

Well, this year was very interesting. Not only did I beat my time from last year, but the event was sabotaged as well! Some mindless individuals wishing to disrupted the race and even hurt cyclists threw tacks over parts of the course (if I were to catch up with them -grrr!).

The race was halted for 1 hour while the organisors and stewards cleared the roads. More on the story can be found here on bbc site.

See my pictures from the race oh and my time was 4hrs 14mins.

Pedal for Scotland Bike Ride 2008

Pedal for Scotland 2008I took part in Pedal for Scotland just yesterday a 55 mile cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh. See 2007 route map. It was a smashing day the weather stayed perfect for the race, cloudy and dry so not too hot. Race was started by Mark Beaumont who cycled 5000 miles around the world.

My time for respectable too (3hrs 30mins) although I could have probably pushed myself a bit harder but its not a timed event its to raise money and have a good day cycling (which I did).

My wife Leanne and son Luke were there at the finishing line to see me arrive in Edinburgh – thanks for the support see my pictures.

Cairngorm Classic

I took part in the Cairngorm Classic yesterday which is a 50 mile cycle around Cairngorm mountains near Aviemore.Chris Kennedy and Peter Forbes on the Ciarngorm Classic

The Race is the UK’s highest event on a public road (632m)- Finish on Scotland’s Alpe D’huez at the Cairngorm Visitor Centre!  The routes take you from the heights of Cairngorm through the north of the Spey Valley within the boundaries of the Cairngorms National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty.

My time was very respectable: 3hrs 11mins.
