69 miles training run yesterday was a good test for my new bike and it did very well. Need to keep up the big miles for the next 3 weeks so I am ready for Etape Caledonia 2011. Looking forward to it especially on my new Orbea bike – its great!

Very impressive talk from Mark Beaumont last night at Dundee University about his achievements so far. Currently he holds the world record for cycling around the world in the fastest time of 194 days 17 hours. His next challenge was to cycle the Americas from Anchorage, Alaska to Ushuaia in Southern Argentina and also climb the 2 highest peaks between – which he completed! So you can imagine he has some stories and experiences to share. Great talk!

Completed the etape caledonia this year however had some bike trouble so did not improve on my time from last year which is a pitty. My wheel kept falling off everytime I got out of the saddle to climb hills – not good! So I will definately be buying a new bike for next! Aready registered for etape 2011 – cant wait.

Posted by Chris | 0 commentsWell, this year was very interesting. Not only did I beat my time from last year, but the event was sabotaged as well! Some mindless individuals wishing to disrupted the race and even hurt cyclists threw tacks over parts of the course (if I were to catch up with them -grrr!).
The race was halted for 1 hour while the organisors and stewards cleared the roads. More on the story can be found here on bbc site.
See my pictures from the race oh and my time was 4hrs 14mins.
